Hurricane Ike--I'm blogging this

During the day yesterday, the cone of death moved more in line with the Megalopolis where I live, so we're expecting hurricane conditions this weekend. The conventional wisdom is, "run from water, hide from wind." Depending upon how your crow flies, I'm 50 to 70 miles away from the coast, well clear of the storm surge. So, I'll be hiding, not running.

While I do, hide that is, I hope to throw out some pictures, video and narrative of what it's like in Spring, Texas during the storm--hopefully very regular and rapid updates when I'm not sleeping. So, check out hurricaneikeblog.blogspot.com and tell all your weather nerd friends.

power outages from windblown and tree-fallen power lines are probably your biggest threat. my parents down in RGV were without electricity for 5 days after Dolly earlier this summer -- made it unbearable, esp at night to try to sleep w/o A/C.

good luck!

Stay safe out there. Hope Ike turns out to be meek. Hurricane Bob destroyed my family's boat in '91 – and tossed around 300 other boats in the harbor. It's amazing the force that hurricanes can produce.
