Ever Feel Like You Wuz Being Watched?

Just a quick little story today.

So, Superpounce is working on some little essay questions to get herself into the gifted program at her new school, and I'm helping her outline her responses. One of the questions asks, "Name someone you admire and tell why you admire them." I thought she might pick me, if only to suck up. And of course, she says,

"My dad . . . .

"because he did an Ironman."

As if I finished in 8 hours or made the podium! But wait. It gets better.

"Describe one of your long term goals," the application inquires. And she answers:

"I want to do an Ironman."

Obviously, that goal (in the unlikely event it sticks) is at least 8 years in the future--more like 10 if I get my way. But little did I know how contagious this disease can be.

Kind of scary being a dad, they watch you so closely. But also nice. At least for a couple more years I'm not the village idiot and she wants to follow in my footsteps.

It is SO cool when daughters want to be just like dad...how proud you must be!
(But I would hesitate to call this passion for three sports a "disease"! C'mon!)

She could do worse than to want to follow in your footsteps, Dad. Nicely done. Very nicely done. (and don't even try to tell us that didn't leave you a little verklempt)

Oh course she wants to be like you, dawg!

The village idiot? Pleeeease. Doubt that will happen. However, in the off chance it does, take it from one guy that has gone through the teenage years with a daughter, by the time she's 20 she will appreciate how wise (and IronDaddy) you really are.

Stay tuned...

I think some of my kids classmates are more impressed than he is that his mom has done an Ironman. I had some kids ask me, "Are you Steven's mom???" "You've done one of those Ironman races, haven't you???" "Have you been to the Olympics???"

"YES!" "YES!!!" and "Fat chance, I'm not that fast."

Just hope that one day he catches the bug.

i remember when my mom ran her first marathon back in 1980. it didn't rub off right away, but in my late 20's i finally got the buzz. 10 marathons later....

you should be proud. she's gonna rock at that ironman when she finally gets the chance!!!

That must have felt awesome. I hope she does do an Ironman someday. I hope you two are able to do one together!

Good timing on this subject. I just signed my 5 y/o daughter up to do a kids marathon because she wants to be an ironman one day. Kids rule (sometimes when they aren't big pains' in the ass)

A daughter who aspires to be like her Dad. What a monumental goal. Very worthy and so very beautiful!

Maybe all that work being a good example isn't going to waste!

A) I have those same shoes! I love them.

B) I love this girl more and more the more I read about her. I'm kind of at a loss for words, but I'm pretty touched. You must have been too.
